Say Alloa to second spot

Alloa leapfrogged Stranraer to move up to second in the Scottish Third Division table with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Recreation Park.

The home side shaded the opening stages, with Ryan Harding's header drifting just wide of the Stranraer goal from six yards out.

Both sides had chances to forge ahead but Alloa were the first to convert one of many opportunities, midfielder Ryan McCord heading home Graeme Holmes' cross from the right just before the hour mark.

Ben Gordon was dismissed for Alloa after receiving his second yellow in stoppage time, giving Stranraer hope of a point.

Substitute Michael Moore could have earned them a draw but the striker fluffed his lines when he struck his shot straight at Craig McDowall with seconds remaining.
