Ross County moved clear at the top of division one after a deserved victory over Stranraer at Victoria Park.

Alex Burke scored the only of the first half, and Stuart Taylor doubled the lead mid-way through the second half, before David Hamilton pulled one back.

County won a corner kick in the first half after some good work from Alex Burke, but Martin Canning headed over from six yards.

But the opener was just delayed by just six minutes. Steve McGarry threaded the ball though to Burk,e and the former Queen of the South winger turned his marker and shot low into the far corner of the net.

Stranraer tried to hit back and full-back Stephen Swift had a goal-bound shot blocked by Canning.

County almost doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when a Lionel Djebi-Zadi cross was turned on to his own upright by Murray Henderson.

At the other end, David Hamilton missed a good chance to level matters eight minutes from the break when he drifted his shot wide after being put clear by Allan Jenkins.

The Blues had another chance before the break, but Lee Sharp failed to control the ball with only Stuart Garden to beat.

Paul Walker replaced Derek Wingate for the visitors at the start of the second half and he was almost through on goal in his side's first attack of the half, but Mark McCulloch slid in to dispossess him at the vital moment.

But the home side were on top and they doubled their lead in the 68th minute when Stuart Taylor tucked the ball into the corner of the net after playing a neat one-two with Burke.

But Stranraer did not give up without a struggle, and Hamilton reduced the deficit 10 minutes later when he got on the end of a cross from substitute Paul Walker to nod the ball home, despite Garden getting a hand to the ball.

County's Polish striker Maciej Nuckowski had a great chance to grab his first goal seconds after coming on, but he failed to find the net.
