Stranraer 1-0 Cowdenbeath- Match Report

Mark McGuigan's strike seals play-off spot for Stranraer

Mark McGuigan's solitary strike was enough for Stranraer to seal a Ladbrokes League One play-off place by beating Cowdenbeath 1-0.

Stranraer took the lead three minutes into the second half when McGuigan drilled home after keeper Grant Adam had parried Willie Gibson's effort.

Craig Malcolm twice went close for Stranraer with Greig Spence lashing an effort wide at the other end.

Paul Cairney nearly nudged Stranraer in front as the half-hour approached but, after playing a one-two with Malcolm, his strike was palmed away by Adam.

The keeper made another decent save moments later to keep out Andy Stirling's effort before Declan McDaid was thwarted by Stranraer stopper Cameron Belford just before half-time.

After McGuigan broke the deadlock, Steven Bell headed wide for the home side and substitute Jamie Longworth twice had opportunities to add a second, with Cowdenbeath now needing a play-off to preserve their League One status.
