Hamilton deserved their narrow win at Stair Park and it was their commitment to push men forward, particularly in the early stages, which proved to be Stranraer's undoing.

They delivered a crippling blow to the home side with a score when the game was only two minutes old.

Hamilton were a lively lot and Stranraer were caught cold by their smart move down the left which finished with Derek Fleming pushing over a low cross and Scott Tunbridge popping up at the near post to divert the ball into the net.

And on 24 minutes Stranraer's deficit was doubled when home keeper Barry-John Corr fouled Tunbridge in the box, was yellow-carded and then had to pick the ball from the net from Brian Carrigan's spot-kick.

But Stranraer fought back and on the half hour found their scoring touch. Colin Marshall, who had come on to replace the injured Andy Dowie, combined with Leigh Hinds to give Michael Moore the ball on the six-yard line and the Stranraer striker turned smartly and hit high into the net from close range.

The second half proved to be goalless with Stranraer working hard and looking better after using their subs, but they failed to crack a fairly good Hamilton defence and the visitors in turn could not add to their earlier scores which in the end proved to be enough to give them full points.
