Stranraer register win

Stranraer recorded their first win of the season and moved off the bottom of the Scottish Third Division thanks to a 2-1 win over Berwick.

An even game was sparked into life in two second-half minutes when two long-range strikes put Stranraer firmly in control.

Christopher Aitken opened the scoring from the edge of the area when his right-footed effort beat Jamie Barclay after 61 minutes.

And Aitken's effort was bettered in the 64th minute when striker Craig Malcolm smashed an effort from 20 yards into the top right corner.

Berwick had a chance to pull one back minutes later, but in-form Paul Currie blazed over from point-blank range.

Substitute Fraser McLaren picked up Andrew McLaren's pass and unleashed a 35-yard wondergoal after 76 minutes to reduce the deficit.

But the midfielder then fired wide from six yards with five minutes remaining as Stranraer held on.
